Concert Preview: “Sursum Corda: Brahms to Bernstein on Thursday Concert”

Sursum Corda, the 18-voice choir led by Lester Seigel, will present its spring program Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Canterbury United Methodist Church.Titled “Hope, Faith, Life, Love …” the concert will feature Leonard Bernstein’s “Missa Brevis,” a work composed in 1988 to honor conductor Robert Shaw on his retirement from the Atlanta Symphony. Soloists will be countertenor Ray Chenez and percussionist Mark Libby.Also scheduled are Poulenc’s “Quatre Petites Prieres de Saint Francois d’Assise” for men’s voices, and Brahms’ motet, “Warum ist das Licht gegeben?” A number of shorter works, including one by Sting, will fill out the program.Admission is free.
